Call Me Dunham

This film explores the social realities faced by women in Indonesia and critiques the deeply rooted patriarchal culture that still exists in society. Yuni, who aspires to continue her education, is held back by social norms and traditional beliefs that say rejecting two marriage proposals means she will never find a partner. Arawinda Kirana’s performance is absolutely outstanding her gestures and expressions feel so natural that they make the audience truly feel Yuni’s sadness. The color purple, which is closely associated with Yuni, serves as a symbol of freedom, courage, and resistance against restrictive social norms. Although the pacing is slow, it’s still engaging and easy to follow. As long as you stay focused while watching, I’m sure you’ll find the flow enjoyable.
